A complete overhaul of the Walmart® in-store color experience.
Color made easy

After years of brand and product changes, Walmart®'s color displays were inconsistent and under-serviced. It was not uncommon for stores to feature different size displays. In an effort to consolidate and standardize the paint department while also improving the consumer experience, a new display was conceptualized, pitched and executed. Insights from PPG's consumer journey map and Walmart "shop-a-long" results drove the display content, including ideal number of color options and key project information. The project section of the display leans into an omni-channel strategy while also answering common project questions. Most of the display features 4x4" color swatches in a wide assortment of the most popular and usable paint colors. The ready-mixed section includes swatches of all ready to use products. A QR code to the color's online product page is incorporated into the back of each chip so that consumers can continue their shopping experience after viewing the color in their home's natural light. While the content and organization of the display makes it appealing to Walmart®'s customers, the engineering and materials are the most impressive piece to Walmart®'s corporate team. It is one of the first color chip displays to be made of almost completely with corrugated cardboard. This makes the display incredible sustainable due to its ability to be recycled and allows for sections of the display to be updated at a much lower cost. Built as sections, the modular units can be assembled in the full 8ft for stores that have tint capabilities and 4ft for the stores that only offer ready-mixed products.
