When Pittsburgh Paints & Stains® (PP&S) Paramount® exterior stain & sealant in one was due for a formula upgrade, the brand took the opportunity to update the label design. The goal was to reinvent the label architecture to align closer to the brand's sister product, Paramount® Paint, while also incorporating insights from PPG's latest DIY stain label study. Triangle shapes and patterns were used to tie the product to the Paramount® Paint label, while a clear communication hierarchy and large wood images featuring water-beading were incorporated per research findings. The color palette used to identify opacity type (Clear, Transparent, Semi-Transparent and Solid) was also updated to match existing PP&S stain product lines. The finalized labels received praise from the customer, PPG sales reps and consumers alike as the bold triangles, color-matched wood photos, solid colored backgrounds and gold accents looked premium on shelf while also simplifying the shopping experience.
